Libraries to Collect Related Journals
Flojourn allows you to collect related journals into libraries for easy sharing and access.
A Library is a place to put Journals. A Library can be followed exactly like a Journal can be followed. Libraries can also be private, request or public, just like Journals.
When a Library is being viewed the Journals in it appear in the main content panel just like the results of a Journal search.
Once a Library has been followed, it appears as an entry in the NavList just like a Journal.
If Journals are added or removed from a Library the change is visible to anyone viewing or following the Library.
A Journal can be added to any number of Libraries and the a Library can contain Journals created by any user. However the person adding a Journal to a Library must have "write" access to the Library and "read" access to the journal.
If a private Journal is added to a public Library, the private Journal will be hidden to anyone who does not already have access to the private Journal.
There are two main purposes for Libraries:
An easy way to share a collection of journals
People or groups will often have several related journals which would all be of interest to anyone interested in any one of them. The Library offers a way to show them all of these Journals at once.
For instance a club or instructor or other group using Flojourn to coordinate and promote activities within the group would typically place all of their Journals into a Library and then share the Library with the members.
Or an enthusiast who has been looking for Journals by other people on a subject that interests them may compile a Library of Journals that can be shared with others who are also interested in the topic.
A way to collect journals without following them
Following a Journal adds it to the NavList which is exactly what you want if it is a Journal you will be interacting with often. However, there may be journals that are of interest but you only want to keep a reference to them so you can find them if and when you next want to view them.
Here you can use a Library as a way to keep a list of journals but without cluttering the NavList with entries you rarely want to view.
