Journal Entries
All data is stored in entries which are mostly text but can include other elements for a richer experience.
The main organisational element of Flojourn is the journal. Within the journal are entries, which is where the actual data is stored. Rather than long notes, it is intended for entries to be short single point items which can be entered and organised later.
Formatted Text
An entry is much like a social media post. Mainly it is a short block of text, but it can have other things too. The text itself can can have basic text styling (eg bold, list, quote) for interest and emphasis.
Free tier users are limited to 300 characters of text and paid tiers can extend to 2000 characters.
Images
An entry can have up to three images attached. Images are attached as illustration, this is not an image archive and the dimensions and data size are reduced. So keep your image originals safe somewhere else.
Date and Time
Entries can have a date and a time added which makes them into an event. You can read more about managing event entries.
You can view the entries of a journal in a calendar view which organises all entries by the date they were created, or by the event date.
Location Map
You can open a map in the entry editor and click on it to place a pin. Placing a pin adds the address to the text of the entry. You can then edit or remove the address to suit your needs. You can only have one pin on a single entry.
You can view a journal in a map view. It will show a pin for each entry that has a location. Clicking on the marker will open up the base details in context but you can click again to go to the full entry details.
Tags
If you are collecting and organising lots of entries in a journal and want to be able to find particular topics easily later you can use tags. For instance if you use Flojourn to keep track of interesting articles in the news. By adding a hash symbol "#" to the beginning of a word it becomes a tag. That means you can search for tags by adding the "#" in the search blank. For instance searching for "#science" would only find entries that contained the science tag and not entries that simply included the word "science"
Polls
You can turn an entry into a poll, which is covered in the page on Managing Polls.
Replies and Reactions
Depending on access permissions it is possible to reply to an entry. You can also reply to a reply which is called a comment. This allows discussions and amendments to an entry.
You can also react to a journal entry by clicking the top line of the entry. This offers a standard selection of emoji reactions. You can change your reaction to a post but cannot post twice. Choosing the same emoji as before removes your reaction.
See the page on Replies and Reactions for more details.
Attachments and Collections
Journals collect entries together in a chronological order. If you want to make sub-collections of entries and to give them a different order, you can make a mini list of entries using the Attachments on an entry.
See the page on Basket and Collections for more details.
